On April 26th and 27th, at a school in the Halton Board, I had the pleasure of reading The Secret’s Out to grades 1 to 4 students. In addition to reading the book, we engaged in a highly interactive presentation/discussion. The students were engrossed in the messages that this story conveys. The main focus of the discussion captured the student’s understanding and ability to possess their own “super power” from within. Examples of how to use their “super power” for good and to stay strong in times of difficulty, such as encountering a bully, were actively shared by many.
As one of the main themes of The Secret’s Out is acceptance, the students were reminded that it is “OK to be different.” They understood that through loving and respectful relationships with others and self, that they would not feel alone.
Feedback from staff was overwhelmingly positive and the students loved it!
